While the homes and the community may be relatively new, the story behind Meadowmont is rich with history. The land that Meadowmont was built on was originally owned by the DuBose family, who built The DuBose House in 1933. The home and its surrounding was known as Meadowmont because of it’s location on a hill surrounded by dense North Carolina forest. The home still stands in its original location, and stands as a perfect example of Georgian Revival style architecture. The home has been added to the National Register of Historic Places.

In the late 1980’s, the home and its gardens were donated to the nearby University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The university maintains the home and its garden, and has built several executive and educational buildings around it. The house itself is used to host special events. The rest of the land, however, remained in possession of the family, and during the 1990’s, was opened for development due to the high cost of maintenance. The land began to develop into the community known as Meadowmont thanks to Roger Perry, who kept the name to reflect the history of the land.

Built in 1999, Meadowmont is a connected community that utilizes the narrow streets and old stone walls of the old DuBose estate. Tree-lined streets and sidewalks attest to the accessibility of the neighborhood while homes lined with front porches and neighborhood parks support an air of Southern hospitality, encouraging interaction between neighbors.

Meadowmont offers a variety of real estate opportunities within its friendly community. Whether residents are looking for townhomes, condos, estate homes, or Craftsman cottages, Meadowmont offers a variety of luxury homes.
